We are pleased to announce that the English translation of the report on Children’s Rights in RSPO Member Oil Palm Plantations in Indonesia is now available to download at this link.

This report stems from the Children’s Rights and Business Principles (CRBP) pilot project, first initiated in Indonesia in 2016, by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). Its aim was to provide information and knowledge on standards and positive implications of CRBP for management and staff on oil palm plantations, and to help identify best practices relating to fulfilling children’s rights in the seven CRBP impact sectors. The pilot findings were shared as recommendations to the 2018 Principles and Criteria (P&C) Review Task Force, thus incorporating CRBP as part of the revised standards for RSPO members. Lingkar Komunitas Sawit (LINKS) was also identified as an implementing project partner, in collaboration with UNICEF.

Furthermore, RSPO is seeking to develop a toolkit for companies to improve business policies and practices for working parents and children, and surrounding communities. This will serve to support companies in all stages of the palm oil supply chain to integrate protection of child rights  more effectively in their business activities. It will build on previous research and activities, including RSPO’s pilot engagement with palm oil companies in Indonesia to develop models of best practice.
